It has been a whirlwind few years for filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung — and never simply because his final rodeo was tornado-based catastrophe film Twisters. Simply half a decade in the past Chung, struggling to get by as an indie director, was about able to give up directing to pursue a profession as a movie lecturer. However now, one Minari, a fistful of Oscar nominations, and a brace of Star Wars gigs helming episodes of The Mandalorian and Skeleton Crew later, the world it appears is Chung’s oyster. And, per Deadline‘s reporting, we’re studying that the following cinematic pearl from the Korean-American auteur is ready to be an adaptation of Joseph Eckert’s sci-fi novel Traveler.
Described as an “intimate household drama” (thus far so Chung) that unfurls into “an unlimited science fiction odyssey” (maybe rather less Chung), The Traveler was initially tailored for display by author Austin Everett, who made the Black Listing together with his early draft of the movie. The present iteration of the screenplay hails from Terminator: Darkish Destiny author Justin Rhodes, and whereas the film’s logline is being saved below wraps at present, the e-book’s plot define affords a tantalising glimpse at what lies forward. The novel revolves round 47-year-old biotech Scott Treder, a person who begins inexplicably leaping by way of time and finds himself working together with his genius son Lyle — only a little one when the time skipping begins — to attempt to cease it. As Eckert’s personal abstract of the e-book places it, Scott turns into each “witness to and shaper of the longer term” — like a sort-of sci-fi Forrest Gump.
